Chicago-Albuquerque-Los Angeles (Southwest Chief)

Take a rail trip through the heart of the historic American West so synonymous with the days of pioneers, wagon trails, cowboys and those first railroad adventures. Hailed as one of the grandest routes offered by Amtrak, the Southwest Chief transports you from the modern, cosmopolitan city that is Chicago over the Great Mississippi River, into the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, and on to Los Angeles on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Covering some 3,645 kilometres (2,265 mi), the Southwest Chief passes through eight states, past expansive prairies, old missions and ranches, and through majestic canyons and desert flatlands, giving you the most complete tour of America’s array of landscapes in the process.

On its way to LA, the train incorporates Kansas City, Albuquerque and Flagstaff, while a stop at Williams Junction gets you a bus-ride to the Grand Canyon National Park and the wonders of the world-famous canyon itself.

On board the Southwest Chief, the Superliner Cars offer luxurious sleeping quarters, while spectacular views of the passing scenery are available from the large glass windows of the Sightseer Lounge Car. In the Dining Car, enjoy world-class dining in true comfort with a range of local and international cuisine.

Even for coach passengers, the superior comfort offered through spacious seats, ensures everyone who travels on the Southwest Chief gets an unforgettable journey through what is a truly spectacular region of the USA.
